Over the last couple of years, the National Police Dog Foundation has grown. While we are very happy that we are supporting many more law enforcement departments and touching the lives of their K-9 heroes, with this growth has come a huge increase in demand for help.
The bottom line is we need your help! Your donation will make a difference in the lives of our nation’s police K-9s and handlers.
To make sure your gift goes to the cause that matters to you, we have simplified the way you can donate. We have created direct funds through which you can ensure your gift goes directly to support the fund that is most important to you.
Our fundraising efforts include the following funds that award grants to K-9 units across the nation:
– K-9 Purchasing Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies with costs related to the purchasing of K-9s.
– K-9 Training Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies with costs related to the initial training of K-9s.
– Active K-9 Medical Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies with costs related to emergency medical expenses of active K-9s. In addition, the National Police Dog Foundation has also incorporated a network of veterinarians to help assist agencies with providing for maintenance care and possible emergencies as well as costly medical situations that might occur during their active service career.
– Retired K-9 Medical Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies and Handlers with costs related to emergency medical expenses of retired K-9s. It is equally important to provide continued care for the police service dog after it retires. Our network of veterinarians includes some of the country’s most valued specialists in many varying areas of health care.
– K-9 Health Insurance Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies with costs related to medical insurance of active K-9s.
– K-9 Heat Alarm Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies with costs related to the installation of heat alarms in K-9 equipped vehicles. Heat exhaustion is a major cause of death for active K-9s.
– K-9 Memorial Fund: This fund offers grants that assist Law Enforcement Agencies who are not only grieving from the loss of one of their K-9 officers but also who do not have the funds to replace the K-9s. Each year dozens of K-9s who are our first line of defense, fall in the line of duty. The fund assists in covering the costs directly associated with: – the replacement of K-9s and related training can cost as much as $25,000.00 per K-9 to be street ready – the Annual Police K-9 Memorial Service during Police Week in Washington, DC
